Event Costs

General living costs in Costa Rica can be lower than in the U.S. (local goods) or higher (anything imported). Dinner, including drinks, in a prime beach location is about the same as Denny’s or Applebees in the U.S.

Go vs. Stay Costs

♦ Some costs will be brand new (airline tickets, rentals, excursions, cabs)
♦ Some costs are similar to expenses at home (food, drink, entertainment)
♦ Some costs will remain regardless (mortgage, car payment, insurance)
♦ Some costs will disappear (gas…)

Rentals of anything are the cheapest by the week or month. I rented my cruiser bike for $50 a week. The same goes for other rentals like a scooter, motorcycle, or car.

Flights

Look at flights as quickly as possible, as they can fill up fast. I was able to get cheap, direct flights from Minneapolis on Sun Country (5½ hours in the air). American and Delta are good carriers as well. My flights in 2021 were $360 plus bags. In 2022, it was $549 for the same flights in/out of Liberia airport. Both round trip flight costs were excellent values.

Lodging

The CCC in CR event is being hosted at Selina hotels. A monthly standard room rental is $1,140 US. Nightly room rates are over $100, so the monthly pass is the best way to go even if you are only staying a couple of weeks.

Budget Example

There is no event cost for the 2022 event. You simply cover your own expenses.

I have secured a great monthly room rate that works well even if you are just staying a few weeks. It includes all coworking access and other privileges. We will have meals and enjoy entertainment and activities together, stay in the same hotels, and get to know each another better.

This is a simple first-month budget for the trip based on a standard room. These are good ideas for the value-minded, cost-conscious traveler. This is MY budget for Month 1 of the trip. Months 2 and 3 are less expensive with no airfare.

The single night rate for a Standard Private Room in Manuel Antonio is about $130, so a monthly pass is a good deal for just about everyone.
